Welcome to Chowan University

In an effort to admit students who fit Chowan University, every application is reviewed on an individual basis with emphasis on the applicant's high school grade point average, high school class rank, course curriculum, SAT 1, CLT, and/or ACT score(s), and extracurricular activities, including community service and church involvement. Recommendations and essays are not required. At this time, we are also test optional.

You will have a personal admissions counselor to assist you in navigating each step of the admissions process, including scholarships, financial aid, housing, and class registration.

President Peterson believes in educating and nurturing students in a student-centered environment by placing great instructors and staff members in front of students and providing opportunities through thorough and demanding curricula that celebrate the exceptionality of all students. He feels that education should promote a safe, yet challenging, environment for students to grow academically, personally, socially, intellectually, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Part of President Peterson’s vision for Chowan is to continue the effort to recruit and retain students as well as continue to grow and improve the University facilities. He has a desire to work with the faculty to bring in innovative academic programs and work closely with the students to gauge their feelings and listen to their needs.

Chowan University is committed to equality of opportunity in all areas of education and does not practice or condone discrimination in any form against applicants or students on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, age, or disability.
