Welcome to Financial Aid

The purpose of the financial aid program at Chowan University is to help students who cannot otherwise afford to attend college finance their education through a variety of scholarships, grants, loans, and/or part-time employment.

In order to receive aid, a student needs to have been admitted to the University and, after enrollment, must make satisfactory academic progress as indicated in the policy below. To apply for financial aid, complete and file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov. The FAFSA on the Web Worksheet is available in the high school guidance counselors' offices and in the Chowan University Financial Aid Office. Since financial aid is not automatically renewed, a student must reapply each year.

Our office estimates a standard Cost of Attendance for all students based on their undergraduate, graduate status, residency, level of enrollment (e.g., full-time, half-time, etc.), and, in some cases, academic program. You will not receive aid in excess of your estimated Cost of Attendance.

Direct costs include tuition, room, and board when applicable and an allowance for books and supplies. Financial aid awards that include institutionally administered funds will be reduced when a student changes from residential to commuter status.

Chowan helps parents and students with financial planning. Understanding what the costs are, including tuition and fees, room expenses, and books can be confusing. Chowan can provide individual access and assistance for all students to afford the education they deserve.

For North Carolina residents, North Carolina residency must be determined via RDS before any financial aid from the state can be considered.

Out-of-state residents do not pay out-of-state tuition.

FAFSA

FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. You can access the FAFSA online at fafsa.gov. You fill out the FAFSA each year you plan to enroll in school. You can begin filling out your FAFSA on October 1.
