Hawks Volleyball Sets Up For New Quest

After racking up eight divisional and three tournament championships in the CIAA over a span of a decade, the Chowan Volleyball team will shift their focus to their new competition in the Conference Carolinas.

The Hawks come into the new league with high team expectations, but little pressure as the league's coaches voted Chowan to finish 11th overall out of the 12 team league.  Much like the former league, Chowan will compete for a division title and compete in the East division with Belmont Abbey, Barton, Mount Olive, Limestone, and Converse.

Chowan will serve up the season on Sep. 6-7 as the Hawks host a tournament.  The Hawks will face Kentucky State, Ohio Valley, and former league rival Elizabeth City State.

The Blue and White will hit the road for three of their next four matches starting with a road trip to UNC Pembroke on Sep. 10.  The Hawks will host former league championships, Shaw, on Sep. 12 before hitting the road to face Catawba and Virginia State.

Chowan will face Frostburg State at home on Sep. 20 and travel to Francis Marion on Sep. 24 before getting a glimpse of their first Conference Carolinas action.  The Hawks will start their league slate at home against North Greenville and Southern Wesleyan on Sep. 27-28.  The following week, Chowan welcomes Converse and Limestone in a divisional weekend.

Then, the Hawks travel to nearby Wilson, N.C. to take on Barton in a midweek divisional contest before returning home to face Lees-McRae and King on Oct. 11-12.  Chowan will make the return trip to Converse and Limestone the following weekend.

Mount Olive will come to town on Oct. 25 before the Hawks travel south to Belmont Abbey the next day.  The Braves of UNC Pembroke will make their return trip during the week before Chowan takes on Emmanuel and Erskine on the road.

November will wrap up the season featuring four of the final five matches at home.  The Hawks will host Catawba (Nov. 5), Belmont Abbey (Nov. 9), Virginia State (Nov. 12), and Barton (Nov. 16), with the lone road match against Mount Olive on Nov. 8.

The Hawks will look to compete for a bid in the Conference Carolinas Championship starting on Nov. 19 with the top-eight (four from each division) advancing.
